If you juice regularly, you’ll know that there are some vegetables that juice and blend well, and some that don’t work as well! The truth is that you can juice just about anything, and a good healthy juice is more about what you put into it in terms of nutritional value.
In the spirit of good juicing, here are some great vegetables that mix and blend well, and will provide your body with a lot of great nutritional value.
Cabbage
Most people probably don’t eat enough cabbage but the truth is that cabbage is great for detoxification, has anti-oxidant properties, and balances the metabolism, which is good for those looking to lose and maintain a healthy weight.
While cabbage is not recommended on its own, it blends well as a supplement with stronger tasting fruits and vegetables so that you get all of the nutritional value without the flavor.
Broccoli
This super green vegetable is also a superfood. It is filled with antioxidants and vitamin C. This means that it has anti-cancer properties, so it’s wise to eat and juice broccoli regularly in order to get the most benefit in the long-term. Once again, you can easily mix it with stronger flavors, like tomato or carrot, and add apples and lemons if you don’t much care for the taste of it.
Celery
Celery is great not only because it adds plenty of liquid content to your juice, but also because it acts as a detoxification agent for your body. It contains Potassium, which is vital to our daily functioning and optimum circulation, and can help to flush out toxins due to it being something of a diuretic. Mix it with cabbage to experience an intense detox juice cocktail!
Carrots
Carrots should be your go-to basic juicing vegetable. Not only are they sweet, but they juice really well and can mask the taste of other vegetables that might not taste so great on their own. As well as containing cancer fighting beta-carotene nutrients, they can also boost your immune system and might even help in flushing out harmful bacteria in our digestive systems. The flavor of juiced carrots also mixes really well with celery and apples.
Sweet Potatoes
You might not ever have thought about juicing potatoes, but the truth is that they are packed full of anti-inflammatory properties, and also contain vitamin C, copper, manganese, potassium, and iron. You can mix them with carrots for an extra sweet juice surprise, or simply use sweet potatoes as a juicing base so you can add other vegetables.
Peppers
Peppers have a lovely sweet flavor, but can also add some spice to your juicing regimen. They are packed with antioxidants such as vitamin C, and can help in the fight against asthma and other respiratory illnesses when eaten regularly.
Beetroot
If you’ve only ever known sliced beetroot in a tin, you should really try a raw beet in your juicing adventures. They contain a wealth of nutrients, including magnesium, potassium, iron, vitamins A, B6 and C, protein, folic acid, antioxidants, soluble fiber, and are rightly considered a superfood.
Be careful with them though, because the juice is very strong in flavor. Because of this, it can be used to mask the taste of other ingredients.
Mixing a Good Juice
Thought you’ll find the flavor of many vegetables to be rather strong, you can use a juicing base like carrots and then simply mix in other ingredients. As well as the above vegetables, you might also consider adding in the following in small amounts to provide additional flavor:
• Wheatgrass
• Cilantro
• Ginger
• Parsley
• Mint
• Fennel
• Lime
• Lemon
This list is by no means exhaustive and should be used as a way to explore your own juicing likes and dislikes.
